UCSBPLS Undergraduate Law Journal

The university's first UCSBPLS Undergraduate Law Journal is an annual publication that is both student-founded and run. The journal's compiled of articles all written and edited by UCSB undergraduate students and include a variety of ideas and analyses of law-related topics. Being a part of the journal is a great way to gain legal writing experience, editing experience, and legal research skills that are essential for both law school and a career in law. It is also a fantastic opportunity to add relevant experience and extra circulars to your law school application and your resume. Writing or editing for the journal shows you already have an understanding of legal writing and research prior to law school helps and candidates stand out to admissions representatives. Additionally, it is a premier way to gain knowledge about a subject you may be interested in and a way to get your work published in your time at UCSB.

The journal is one of the few undergraduate-specific law journals and law reviews worldwide and is open to all UCSB undergraduate students regardless of membership in the society. We strive to create a publication that is representative of our university's diverse culture and features students from a variety of majors and backgrounds. The journal is our way of reflecting UCSB's diversity and fostering a positive pre-law culture here at UCSB.

Students can apply to be writers, editors, and/or on the leadership board in the winter quarter and have five months to write, edit, and improve their articles before our final publication at the end of the school year in June. Writers will work with peer editors to build out their concepts, articulation, and writing skills for their articles throughout the year. This is a great way to meet other pre-law individuals at the university and a collaborative way to improve writing and research skills for both our writers and editors. Our final publication will then be released both in print and digitally posted to our website.
